Timothy J. Trott:
The Business Lawyer Who Understands Business

This experience gives Tim a unique point of view in meeting the needs of his clients. Tim says, "I see the legal issues facing a business with a business person's perspective. I've negotiated supplier contracts and been an active manager and shareholder in a small entrepreneurial venture (a successful ad agency that is now a multinational leader). I know what it's like to have P&L responsibility--to have to make my numbers." In short, Tim prides himself on being a business lawyer who understands the business of business. He has been involved in the purchase and sales of business from salons to commercial printers to laboratories.
Tim is available to consult with you on the legal needs of your business. He is ready to help you with buying or selling a business, business formation, incorporation, partnership agreements, general business planning and development, contracts, employment law, reorganization and bankruptcy, credit and collection.
Tim believes in practicing preventive law. He says, "My goal is to keep clients out of the courtroom. So many matters can be settled by bringing the parties to the table and negotiating solutions. This is also a great way to keep legal fees and costs down." Practicing this kind of law means spending time with clients, and listening. Tim says, "Lots of lawyers think they need to talk all the time. I find that LISTENING to clients is the best way to get to the heart of a business or legal problem to find a solution."
Tim is active in the Pennsylvania and Chester County Bar Associations.
A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, Tim credits his time in the service with giving him the drive and discipline necessary to being an effective lawyer. While in the Marines, Tim had the opportunity to travel much of the world and considers that experience to be a significant part of his education.
Tim attended Fordham University in New York City and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Media Studies. He received his Juris Doctor degree from the Widener University School of Law, in Wilmington, Delaware.
